Student Support Graduate Assistant

Job Description:
The graduate assistant will serve as the outreach coordinator for Boost, a peer educator program focusing on personal, social, and emotional wellness. The graduate assistant will assist in event coordination and programming for Boost and will meet one-on-one with the Boost Peer Educators for biweekly developmental meetings. The graduate assistant will create materials, resources, and outreach efforts to support and promote Student Support.
 
About Student Support/Boost:
Student Support is part of Slippery Rock’s Student Affairs division and helps students with concerns outside of academics. Students meet with a member of Student Support to discuss resources (on-campus and off-campus) to help with their concerns, set action steps, and to receive follow-up check-ins to discuss student progress. Student Support works with students pursuing a medical withdraw, petitioning for emergency funding through the Student Support Fund, and more.
 
Boost is a peer-to-peer program part of Student Support. Peers are hired by Student Support to create and implement programming focused on lower-level social and emotional wellness concerns. Boost Peer Educators present at FYRST seminars, various campus organization meetings, residence hall programs, individually hosted events, and other campus activities to share programming.
 
Job Functions/ Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate outreach events and groups provided by Boost
  • Meet biweekly with individual peers to facilitate growth and development within the program
  • Oversee social media outreach for Boost
  • Create, enhance, and provide programming for Boost including workshops and FYRST seminars
  • Meet with students who have been referred to Student Support for social and emotional wellbeing, support, and education
  • Maintain the Concern Center resource database
  • Create and maintain a toolkit for Student Support to expand off campus resources, such as apps, hotlines, and support groups
  • Create relevant marketing/informational materials to be used by Student Support (social media, videos, flyers, etc.)
  • Present to various campus groups/organizations
  • Attend assigned development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Respect and value the student population with awareness of student developmental stages
  • Experience working with/supervising student groups or organizations
  • High competency with Microsoft Office products

Supervisor’s Expectations:
  • Graduate assistant will be detail-oriented, responsible, committed to learning, and provide quality services to students, staff, faculty, and community members
  • Graduate assistant will maintain regular office hours (17.5 hours/week)
  • Graduate assistant will maintain confidentiality of all records
  • Preference will be given to graduate assistants who are available for training before the Fall semester (typically the end of July)
